Template
What is Template?
A Template is a predefined table schema designed for efficient reuse, completion, or automation of structured data tasks.
Each template includes the following components:
Title
A concise, meaningful title that clearly reflects the table’s purpose.
Table Schema
A blank table structure with defined row and column headers.
Description
A brief explanation outlining what the table contains and its intended use.
Summary
A compact summary (10 words or fewer) describing the table at a glance.
Typical Use Cases
Up to five concise examples of how the template may be applied.
Metrics
Key metrics tracked by the table, often including associated date can be tracked.
Row/Column Name Descriptions
Detailed descriptions of each header, using the format:
Header Name: Description
Featured Templates
Featured Templates are pre-configured table templates provided by Gentables.
They are available to all users and ready to use immediately.
Note: Featured templates cannot be edited or deleted.
My Templates
My templates are custom templates created by the user.
These templates are private to the user and can be freely edited or deleted as needed.
Use Template
- Click “Use this template” on any template to create a new table based on it.

- In the new table, click “Add New Source” to upload your source file.

- Then click “Generate” to automatically fill the table using the uploaded content.

Edit Template
- Under “My Templates”, click “Edit Template” on the template you want to update.

- Make any changes to the template fields, then click “Save” to apply changes or “Cancel” to discard them.

Create a Template
- Under “My Templates”, choose how you want to create a new template:
- Create Template with Prompt: Describe the table you need, and AI will generate the template for you automatically.
- New Template from Blank: Start with a blank template and manually define all fields.

Save as template
- On any table Generation page, click “Save as template”.

- The table will be saved as a template using its title, and will appear under “My Templates” for future reuse.
